Halloween Memories
Sam Mooney

In America, every October 31st, little children get dressed up and go around at night with there parents to collect candy from their neighbors. It’s Halloween. “Trick or Treat!” (The meaning is a threat. ‘if you don’t give me a treat, I’m going to play a trick on you.)
Every year, I remember looking forward to this holiday. As it drew near my father and little brother and I would each carve a face in a pumpkin making a “Jack O’ lantern.” Then my brother and I (with a lot of help from Mom) would prepare our costumes. Being a monster was fun, but I remember my brother and I always wanted to be Ninjas. (Our Mother liked this because the costume was easy to make… Just get black pajamas and a headband. ^_^; )
Then, on Halloween night, when it got dark out, my brother and I would go out with our friends (and one or two adults) and knock on doors of houses that had their porch light on (a sign that they had candy). Some of the houses were decorated to look old and haunted. Some of them played scary music to frighten us and add to the fun.
At the end of the night my brother and I would return home to count our candy and see who got the most. Because it was so late at night, our parents would let us eat only one before we went to bed. Then for the next few days we would eat the candy after dinner until it was all gone. Now it was time to look forward to Christmas…
